I finally made it to a theater for the first time in a while last night. It was between Cloverfield and Juno. We opted for Juno and I'm happy to say my cinesoul is intact. It was a great little film. Glad to hear that Cloverfield was also good, though I may wait for DVD to watch it on the slightly less naseau inducing big screen in my basement.
(they actually had signs next to the posters at the theater printed up which said "may cause motion sickness")
And I think contrary to Walt's communique, there are those who wish you updated your blog more....but only because you can't get too much of a good thing.

I think "Cloverfield" works pretty well as a chaotic monster movie, as long as you don't expect much in the way of character development or plot. It's a tight little film at under an hour and a half, and the gimmick of the hand-held filming didn't bother me nearly as much as I thought it might have. My theater was mostly teens/young adults, and there was a huge uproar at the end which I found rather amusing. Also, for those who haven't seen the film yet, pay very close attention to the final scene and you might catch something that most people missed.
So yep, I liked it. It isn't as good as last year's "The Host," but it is a bit more intense and visceral. And a hearty amen to Jess's points, especially #3.
And Dave, "Juno" is all sorts of awesome. |
