This is horrible. I didn't go to any of my classes today, and when I turned on the tv, I just sat there in shock. My mind can't even grasp that something this bad could happen on a college campus.
I guess while I wasn't in Newswriting and Reporting today, they discussed this because my prof sent out an email saying the VA Tech newspaper server is down and sent a link where they are posting stuff. You could add this to your links that you posted if you want. http://collegemedia.com/ |

just going along, minding your own business, when suddenly... madness has torn this world asunder.
what was the stressor? the reason?
the point?
shocking as that is, I am more amazed this doesn't happen more often. |

This might be silly but is anyone else thinking about "Greyfeather?" It just reminds of the #2 story is all. |

This is so sad.
I don't have anything to say due to shock and sadness, I woke up this morning in Blacksburg to the carnage on the news.
God bless everyone involved. |

Geez, this is one of those things that seems horrible but ultimately you wind up disconnected from. Then it turns out someone you know was not just there but actually a victim (though thankfully not killed). Sometimes I just really don't know what's going on anymore. |

One of the most disgusting aspects of an incident like this is the gross media coverage that wallows in it, smearing it all over the citizenry, and people making such a tragedy about themself instead of the dead and wounded. Last night, a local FOX channel had the gall cut away from a national news report to interview people in Houston about how the massacre affected them. Step right up and see the amazing whatever. And now everyone needs counciling and let's hold hands and sing kumbaya or LA LA LA until we stop giving a damn again and return to our routine.
And of course Bush gets on TV and makes a show if caring, because it's expected, and as if that helps anything or matters at all.
False sentimentality, the appearance of shock, indignation and sympathy, the assumed and asserted sense of propriety makes it worse and ultimately ill serves us... making a mockery of those who died and of us as a society. |

What was he thinking?
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18169776/?GT1=9246
He mentions following Eric and Dylan’s example, which means he should be aware of the public’s opinion of those two after the fact, and would realize his actions would not be considered favorably in the mainstream, that his message would be lost and ignored… that he would not be seen as a hero. His actions undermine and negate his mission— though we should not let this invalidate his valid point against debauchery.
Despite what he tells us and himself, he’s not doing this for anyone but himself. He’s convinced himself that his drastic actions will accomplish his objective. His real intent is not the message, it is fame… to achieve significance, to be acknowledged, to go out in a blaze of “glory”. What was most important to him was how he thought of himself: powerful, meaningful.
Despite his declarations and justifications, his motivation is not amenable to justice, and is actually revenge. Sociopathic, he was not truly seeking to right wrongs, but simply to hurt his enemies.
The way he speaks in the vids implies he’s playing a part, almost possessed or driven by an external agent. He’s not acting as a person, but as a force or avatar.
If you analyze his creative writing work, and his attitude in the photos and video-- although he is serious, he is clearly enjoying his perception of himself as a hero, as like Christ. This is not the face of God.
It is… the face of evil. |
