While I've played sports as a kid, I've never really been "into" them. I don't watch games. However, given the choice between playing baseball and watching it, I prefer playing. But that aside, I Know exactly what you mean, cuz I'm of the same kin, and I totally respect you more because of that attitude. I enjoy pushing myself past my limits or assumptions (physical/mental), and doing things the hard way because it's not easy (though not sacrificing efficiency or logic). I run up and down 4 flights of stairs to & from my office instead of the elevator. I also avoid medication unless absolutely vital. I don't care about getting scars, and wonder where that cut came from. And I'd rather not rely on others if I don't have to. I wasn't blessed with good genetics, but I never let that be an excuse for weakness or laziness.
As Locke says on LOST: "Don't ever tell me what I can't do!"

It's a difficult balance, being youthful. You need to get all the rough and tumble out while you're young, because the body just won't be able to take it when it gets older, but you don't want to put yourself through such abuse that you won't be able to do anything at all when you get older.

I've given up, mostly, on jumping off of large rocks, rolling down hills, and jumping across roofs and am sticking instead to bicycling, yoga, and other, more standard workouts. I'll still get the occasional flying leap in though, because sometimes you just have to.

It's those nicks and scars that give a person character instead of the 'perfect' barbie/ken dolls. It shows those who live their life instead of coasting through. Keep it up.

I feel you. I hurt my ankle real bad one time doing gymnastics, but it was totally worth it. I was younger than you, though. And I'm a hero.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

They did that last episode and it was ghey. It has to be said that the miniseries through season 2.0 of BSG is amazing and the shit. Season 2.5 sucked at some parts (episodes ‘Black Market’ and ‘Scar’ and so forth) and season 3 has struggled at times. Where they used to excel at what they left in and out, the writers now get lost. Although, even in their worst episode (‘Black Market’) the acting and direction was still way better than Heroes, even though BSG probably had half the budget of H. It also must be said that I saw the end of Heroes this week and it has gotten a lot better. But it’s still not great and it’s so cheesy and inconsistent. They always follow up a great idea or moment with something so le stupid or bad execution.

This is why I don’t like episodic TV: It’s inconsistent and always lets you down, and at some point it becomes about volume and the story/art gets lost. It’s hard to justify investing that amount of your life in that sort of product. Hence, BSG is the only show I watch. And I’m very glad that I came in late and could watch most of it on DVD sans commercials and “tuning in” and live bonus scenes that didn’t make the show and don’t really need to be seen, anyway.

Also, I won a sweepstakes.

Just thought you should know.

I've given up, mostly, on jumping off of large rocks,

Strangely, I feel like I’m just getting started. Or amping it up, I suppose.

rolling down hills, and jumping across roofs

Jumping across roofs! No where, where, would you get a crazy idea like that?

“Character”... isn't that what you say to someone when they're ugly? wink

Oh yeah, Kerri Strug? Well maybe you didn't see that when I was only 12 I broke my pinky playing NERF BASKETBALL.

I am a hero to all kids everywhere who are stuck inside during the cold wintertime with nothing to do.

In my eyes, Heroes has failed and I'm on the verge of leaving it when Eccleston goes. (Because sometimes, you just have to.)
The camel that broke the straw's back occured last ep, when they seem to have showed NCC-1701 as the licence plate on Hiro's father's car. This man, played by George Takei, does not approve of his son's fanciful interests, and so would not be a Trek fan. While the gesture is a nice Trek reference/nod, it compromises the integrity of the story and is indicative of the creators not taking the show seriously. I do not abide by the precept that being a comic book is an excuse for bad writing.

As for the BSG extra footage, I agree. They did that in last ep and it was so ghey I forgot they did it! But maybe this time will be better?

Won a sweepstakes? When did that happen? You can't just throw something like that out there willy nilly and not elaborate! :-P
(That's an odd sounding word.)

Hmm, where did I get the idea to jump from roof to roof? Good question. I mostly did that as a kid, jumping across the tops of garages and occasionally some houses. Last time I did it was in my first college, leaping from the roof/ledge outside the dorm lounge to the separate area across the way.

BTW, keeping your balance while landing on gravel is extremely difficult.

I've come to the conclusion that Heroes is a great idea that's been poorly executed (for the most part). Yet still I watch. It's the curse of being an old comic geek.

I once almost had my nose broken (it did bleed profusely) by a nerf baseball.

Sean: Are you new here? BSG. Seattle. Season 3 final ep. party. WTF? :P

Ah! I thought you were making an inside joke. (This might make sense to you soon.) wink
